Lillies
Lillies are absolutely gorgeous. Most people want them open showing off their gorgeous, unbeatable flower heads but others love watching them slowly open day by day. There are many types of lillies: orientals, asiatics, pineapple, concodore and triumpadore to name the lines we stock.
Some weeks we have bunches that pop open in a day or two and the next lot could take a week to open. Lillies are a living thing and we need to remember this when dealing with them. Just as most of us females appreciate that, depending on the weather and our mood, we have good or bad hair days - well, lillies can have good and bad days too!
Things like weather, water, fertiliser and man-handling from picking to unpacking at home all makes a difference to the way your bunch or stem of lily is going to behave.
To open lillies cut an inch off the bottom, give them fresh water and feed them. If you are in a hurry to open them, give them plenty of light and put them in a vase with fresh water and flower food. If you don't mind how long the stem is the shorter you cut the stem, the quicker the flower head will open as the water doesn't have to travel as far.
