Market Report 5th Nov 2009
November 5 2009Another successful mission completed this morning with a van load of magnificent quality flowers returning to Ballarat. With the burst of summer over the weekend, most farms production has increased considerably, which means some great buying is possible and most importantly, some fantastic product quality available across the board.
One great example of this is the 70cm first grade roses from Grandiflora. The quality is stunning, but because of an increase in their production, this week we have reduced the price by over 30% – at $17.50 they are unbeatable. Prices have also come down on the gerberas, the alstro, and the peonies have also dropped in price considerably from their high value last week.
The garden style red roses have been very well received in the past three weeks, with great feedback on the vase life, with people getting 2 weeks in the vase. If you are a rose fanatic, you should pop into stems just to have a look at the display of these old style roses.
On the native front, the waratahs are easing off a little, and will soon be hard to get…the king proteas are still magnificent, as are the ‘pin wheels’ which can last for over 6 weeks once you get them home.
From the farm, it is sad to say that the ranunculi are starting to die back, which is common at this time of year. We expect to only have these for another 2 – 3 weeks. The iris quality from the farm is second to none, with the beautiful dark purple being very popular. The alstromeria is still in large quantities, and is great value in store at 2 bunches for $10. The sim carnations have also increased in numbers with our Queensland and NSW customers enjoying the extra numbers as the product is in high demand in those states…The other good news for lisianthus customers, is that our plants have arrived, and are being planted as I type this report, so stay tuned for further updates as to their progress…
A reminder to past ‘christmas tree’ shoppers. Our first trees will be available from the last weekend in November, so for those that like to have the tree with all of its finery at the start of December, we have got you covered…
Anyway, I have bored you for long enough. There are many more bargains in store, so please drop in and have a look around and say g’day to our staff…
