Market Report Thursday 10th December 2009

December 11 2009

All things are pointing to a bumper Christmas crop with the current cool weather allowing crops to really improve to top grade as the plant is able to “thicken” up producing a better quality bloom in most cases.  Today’s market displayed some new and interesting products to buy.

The most exciting arrival was the first Lissianthus crop from Avonlea in Shepperton.  It is our opinion that in Victorian terms they are the best grower of Lissi at this time of year.  The bunches are very big with lots of flowers and fresh.  So this will result in excellent vase life 7-10 days.  It is our seasonal pick this week so please include this in your flower buying choice. You won’t be disappointed.

We received a shipment of triple planted Bromeliads in ceramic pots from our friends Gladlands fresh flowers from Queensland.  They are in pink tones with a white ceramic pot and would make an excellent Christmas gift.

Local Peonies hae finished yet we got a BIG surprise when a shipment of excellent grade Sarah Bernahuat Peonies arrived from New Zealand.  One of our brides this week wanted Peonies but we told her that local supply had finished.  She was very excited today when Janine called her and said we had some from New Zealand!  It was great to see someone so happy and appreciative.  We still have some stock for our other loyal customers so please check them out they are a real treat.

Roses continue to be of excellent quality as does most lines.

Of course at this time of year we must mention our Christmas lilies.  We are stocking two grade in store a premium and a standard.  Our premiums come from Feingolds and are the White Heaven variety.  This might not mean much but White Heavens are the most exceptional Christmas lilie variety available.  Their flowers are large trumpet like with a sweet perfume when fully open.  Simply unbeatable bunch at 90cm tall.
