Market Report 7th January
January 7 2010Its taking a little while for all the suppliers to return to the market after an extremely busy Christmas period. The imported lines have been very hard to get over the past 10 days, such as the Singapore orchids and various antheriums, but were back into the market today with limited supply.
The premium red roses have also been hard to get with the majority of the reds being cut back for valentines production. We were lucky enough to get 30 bunches this morning, but have been advised that they will be scarce for the next 4 weeks prior to valentines.
Some of the florists and the growers choose the Christmas period to take a small break, so the market lacked the normal hussle and bustle that we normally expect. The range is still good, however less people buying and selling.
The farm is very busy over the summer period with about 70% of our production occurring over the summer period. The carnations are brilliant at the moment, as are the green trick, which proved to be very popular over the Christmas period. We are picking our first crop of Statice that we have in 4 colours. Again the quality is second to none, and it tends to last for weeks.
8 weeks ago we planted our lisianthus plants, and are excited about their progress. We have staggered the plantings so that we should see a continual supply from the end of January until the end of March. Last years lisianthus was brilliant, and we are expecting similar quality again this year.
There are plenty of other lines available, so beat the heat this weekend, and spend some quality time in our cool room, and hopefully we can help you out with some flowers while you are there…
